Invasive plants and animals in the waters
Invasive plants and animals also inhabit bodies of water. Once they have entered a body of water, it is almost impossible to remove them. Therefore, it is essential to prevent them from being introduced from one body of water to another.
For water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, diving, and the use of canoes, inflatable boats, or other watercraft, the following measures are strongly recommended for everyone:
- Clean or rinse your equipment thoroughly, ideally with hot water. Cleaning with a pressure washer must be carried out in a location connected to the sewage system. Empty all remaining water.
- Check everything thoroughly for any remaining plant or animal debris.
- Dry your equipment completely before using it on another body of water.
If everyone follows these simple rules, we can protect the waters of Graubünden from further invasions of non-native species.
Ship reporting and cleaning obligation for ships with registration numbers
To protect waterways, the canton of Graubünden has a mandatory boat registration and cleaning requirement. Boat operators must report any change of location of their registered vessel to a different body of water and have it cleaned before launching. This requirement also applies in other cantons.
Zoning plan for water sports on Lake Silvaplana
The shore of Lake Silvaplana is located in a protected zone, and only the official entry and exit points may be used.
Kitesurfing is not permitted in the windsurfing training zone. This zone is marked with buoys.
