Behavioral tips for encounters with wolves

General recommendations

There are currently numerous wolf packs living in the canton of Graubünden and on the cantonal border. Although no wolf pack has yet established itself in the Upper Engadin, encounters with wolves are still possible. If you encounter a wolf, remain calm and stand still. It will normally retreat as soon as it notices you. If it does not, remain calm and draw attention to yourself in a firm voice. Then slowly retreat. Do not attempt to approach the animal under any circumstances. The animals must not be fed under any circumstances. Dogs must be kept under personal control or on a leash at all times. Report wolves exhibiting conspicuous behaviour or showing little fear to a gamekeeper as soon as possible.

In addition to wolves, bears have also been sighted very rarely in the Upper Engadin.
