Winter Bucket-List

S-chanf im Winter
In winter, S-chanf is known for one thing above all else - as the finish line of the Engadin Ski Marathon. On no other day than the second Sunday in March are so many people happy to see S-chanf. Legitimately, after 42 kilometers on cross-country skis.

1. Cross-country skiing in and around S-chanf

Before you reach S-chanf, the so-called Golan Heights await you - you've barely overcome one hill before the next one comes. The best way to prepare for this? Training in this region. There are over 240 kilometers of cross-country trails throughout the Upper Engadine. Around S-chanf, skaters, classic skiers and cross-country skiers with dogs will find fantastic conditions.

2. Skiing fun for the little ones

Opposite the village, a small drag lift leads up to the "Bügls" hill, where everything revolves around the first steps on skis. It's not about speed here, quite the opposite: small skill exercises on the easy slope, stem turns, hopping over bumps... here the little snow bunnies can get a taste of the big, wide world of snow sports in peace. Parking is available right next to the lift.

If you've already had your first attempts on skis or a snowboard, you can head to the nearby Zuoz ski area. And the larger areas are also easy to reach from S-chanf by public transport or car.

3. Tobogganing fun in S-chanf

Discover the picturesque winter landscape of S-chanf. A winter hike of around two hours allows you to enjoy the silence of nature while exploring the untouched beauty of the surroundings. Please be careful not to leave the marked path in order to protect the wildlife rest areas that extend to the right and left of the path.

Make your way back from the Griatschouls alpine hut a winter adventure with a relaxing sleigh ride. The sleigh glides carefully through the snowy landscape and lets you really enjoy the beautiful winter atmosphere in S-chanf.

4. Ice Rink Fun

The heart of S-chanf is made of ice: there is a natural ice rink in the middle of the village.

In S-chanf, the students love to be led out onto the ice, because right next to the school building and in the middle of the village, the ice rink beckons in the cold season.

5. Winter hiking in and around S-chanf

The winter hike starts at the cosy Cinuos-chel-Brail railway station and takes you through the snow-covered S-chanf. The route takes you along the narrow valley road and through the snow-covered lanes of Chapella, a small, idyllic place. The winter hiking trail then winds through the forest to Susauna, revealing the enchanting landscape of S-chanf. The village itself impresses with its typical architecture and a historic centre that invites you to explore.

The route continues, turning below the train station and taking you to the well-known village centre of Zuoz. Old Engadine houses with characteristic oriels and artistic sgraffito decorations await you there. Shortly before beautiful Madulain, your hike crosses the Inn and the imposing panorama of Piz Kesch comes into view.

Your winter expedition ends in La Punt, where the trail along the Inn bridge comes to an end. There, impressive Engadine and patrician houses merge into an impressive sight that highlights the beauty of this region.
