Summer Bucket-List

1. Val Trupchun
Why travel far away to go on safari? In the Swiss National Park, you can experience the native flora and fauna in their most pristine form. S-chanf is located at the entrance to Val Trupchun, which is known as the deer arena. Things get particularly lively here in the autumn during the rutting season, when hundreds of stags fight for the attention of the hinds. The start and duration of the rutting season depends on various factors - the temperature in particular plays an important role. If it is still too warm, the animals are not in the mood. However, it usually lasts from the end of September to the beginning of October. If you like, you can take part in a guided tour and learn exciting things about the world of the national park from the professionals, or you can go on your own. It is important that you don't forget your binoculars.

2. Hiking around S-chanf
S-chanf offers numerous hiking routes. Whether towards the national park, Scaletta Pass or Upper Engadine, there are a variety of hiking trails to choose from. Simply choose your favorite route and explore the scenic hiking trails around S-chanf.

Lö Da Ler – Reading bench
Sit down, take a deep breath, dive in!
Find a reading bench and enjoy the fresh air and the view. Next to the bench is a small wooden hut full of books for every mood. The books can be taken away, returned or exchanged for your own.
3. Slow train
The National Park Express takes you comfortably into the national park and is a highlight and motivator, especially for children, if you have little hiking-haters at home. The journey on the slow train shortens the hiking route in a pleasant way. You can board in Zuoz or S-chanf as well as at a few stops between S-chanf and the final stop, Parkhütte Varusch. From here, you can only continue on foot into the wilderness of the national park.

4. Rope Park
Val Trupchun, National Park Express and the ParcAlpin rope park can be perfectly combined. 3 out of 7 items on our bucket list in one day - that's what you call optimal use of time. The rope park is on the way to the national park near Prasüras and has five courses of varying difficulty levels. What's particularly nice is that the courses are based on the animal world in the Swiss National Park. This means that young and old can learn something new in a playful way. The barbecue area on the grounds is an inviting place to linger.
5. Archery course
Not far from S-chanf is the Chapella district with the "Stalla Chapella" farm. In addition to horse riding, they offer a 3D archery course with 28 targets. If you want to try it out first, there is the fun course with 7 stations. It is the only offer of its kind in the Engadin and can be experienced on foot. The aim is to shoot at plastic animals with a bow and arrow from different distances. How accurate are you?
6. Val Susauna
If you are already in Chapella, plan an additional excursion by bike or on foot to the Val Susauna, a little-known, beautiful side valley in the Engadine. A small, picture-book hamlet that you reach on a wide forest road along the Valember river. A visit to the small church is worthwhile. The Val Susauna is also the destination or starting point for anyone who wants to hike further - for example over the Scaletta Pass, which leads to Davos. The hike to Alp Funtauna is also worthwhile.

Easy
Chapella - Val Susauna
The Val Susauna is a lesser-known side valley of the Engadin. Especially during the muleteer times, it was a frequently used passage on the way south.

7. Climbing & Bowling
Bad weather or just want to climb the walls or give in to your playful instincts? The Serlas Parc in S-chanf is made for both. There is a 450 m2 climbing area and bouldering routes on around 120 m2. Extra cool: "Flexclimb" is a world first: Using movable climbing grips and interactive control via a "touchscreen", you can put together individual routes. If you've had enough of climbing, you can compete with family and friends at bowling. It's not a classic bowling alley, but micro bowling - the rules remain the same. If you get hungry in between, you can take a seat in the restaurant, which serves delicious pizzas, among other things. With so much sporting action waiting for you here, it's just the thing.
8. Val Chaschauna
The pass of the same name connects S-chanf with Livigno. The scenery in this valley and on the pass is breathtakingly beautiful – and you will usually see few people here. So if you are looking for solitude, you will find it here. As well as a sporting challenge. A demanding bike tour takes you from Pontresina through Val da Fain to Livigno and over the Chaschauna Pass back to S-chanf in the Engadine. The ascent from the Italian side near Livigno up to the top of the pass at 2694 metres is quite a challenge
The pass is also part of a stage in the National Park Bike Marathon, which takes place at the end of August.

9. Village tour through S-chanf
Take part in our village tour through S-chanf on Monday afternoon. On the tour past the patrician houses you will learn a lot of new, interesting and useful information. Did you know, for example, that the first bank in the Engadine was in S-chanf? You will visit the Reformed Church with its impressive organ and stained glass windows, among other things.
