Summer bucket list Madulain

Madulain im Sommer von Oben
Thanks to the many hiking trails and mountain bike routes, the fairytale landscape in Madulain can be explored in many different ways. The mountain scenery also presents itself at its most beautiful when walking across the green of the Zuoz-Madulain golf course or on a ride with the horses of the Engadin River Ranch. If you are travelling on the Inn cycle path, you will pass through Madulain - take the path through the village - it is worth it.

1. Hiking around Madulain

In Madulain you can hike the Via Engiadina, the Via Valtellina and the Bernina Trek. Three long-distance hikes that start in Madulain or pass by it. If you do the Bernina Trek, a night in the Chammana d'Es-cha awaits you - anyone else looking for something out of the ordinary should also book a night in this SAC hut at 2594 m above sea level in front of the impressive Piz Kesch. From here, hikers can let their gaze wander over the beautiful Engadine panorama as if on a balcony, while they recover from the climb with delicious home-cooked food. Tip: Be sure to try the Graubünden barley soup!

2. Engadin River Ranch

They say that happiness is on horseback. The Engadin River Ranch will give you this feeling of happiness. It offers western-style rides for both beginners and advanced riders. In summer, autumn and winter, short rides, day tours or multi-day tours on horseback lead through the Engadin mountains. If you prefer to travel by carriage, the ranch also offers that. The horseback riding and yoga retreats are also particularly popular. It is worth booking these early.

3. Engadin Golf Club Zuoz-Madulain

The Zuoz-Madulain golf course is a fun place to be - regardless of who is teeing off. Golf is no longer an elitist sport. The 18-hole course in Zuoz-Madulain, which opened in 2003, offers a variety of holes for every level. In autumn, families can also enjoy fun and action here, and dogs are also allowed, provided a few rules are followed. Special times are available for family golf fun and golfing with dogs.

The Engadin has always known how to score points when it comes to golf, as the sport has a long tradition here. This goes back to the opening of the oldest golf course in Switzerland in Samedan in 1893. Its neighbour in Zuoz-Madulain is in no way inferior. In the Engadin, you also have the chance to play your longest ball yet. Because thanks to the thin air, balls fly nowhere as far as they do here. Try it out.

4. La Punt-Madulain forest nature trail

This educational trail is a treat for explorers of all ages. There are 34 different trees, bushes and many types of plants to explore, each marked with wooden posts and small, green nameplates. But that's not all! The animal world of the Engadine can also be discovered on the educational trail. Artists have carved 11 large wooden figures from local tree trunks and placed them along the educational trail. 9 of these represent local wild animal species. The educational trail is 2.3 kilometers long and runs along forest paths, footpaths and meadow sections. It is mostly flat, but not suitable for strollers. Along the way you will find a picnic area with a fireplace and a fountain in an enchanting forest clearing.

The forest educational trail is open in spring, summer and autumn.

5. Art in the Stalla Madulain

In 2014, contemporary art came to Madulain with the opening of the Stalla Madulain art gallery. It stands in the middle of the village, the old barn from 1488, which was discovered by the two cousins Gian Tumasch Appenzeller and Chasper Schmidlin. Chasper, who is an architect, has slightly restored it while retaining the original structure. Art by local artists or those who were inspired in the rooms or during a stay in the Engadine is shown and sold.

The Stalla includes the Stalletta - a small stable 50 steps from the Stalla Madulain. It functions as an additional exhibition space.
