A small interactive museum has been created in the "Ganda" quarry, which was abandoned in 1965. During the summer months, visitors can explore the adventure trail independently. Visits to the museum are only possible as part of a guided tour (every Wednesday at 1 p.m.).
As early as the mid-19th century, quarrying activities in the "gianda da las plattas" area near the Sils Alp can be documented. The importance of the Fexer slabs lay in the fact that they could be split very thinly, down to about 15 mm thick. Therefore, due to the weight savings, they were ideal for roofing. The stone – a gneiss (mineral-rich mica schist) – could only be split in its frozen state during winter. This provided a modest but welcome income for some men from the nearby Val Malenco and from Sils during the winter months. Today, the Fexer slabs are highly sought after, primarily for their beautiful colors.
