Where beauty lies at your feet
The Engadin's most beautiful view leaves no one untouched. For 160 years, connoisseurs have been enjoying the pure splendor of the mountains on Muottas Muragl. A trip to this wonderful excursion mountain is simply a must. "If you want to see the Engadin, go to Muottas Muragl, the unique viewing mountain with a view of the Upper Engadin Alpine lake landscape and the ice-covered peaks of the Bernina group," recommended the Baedecker as early as 1867, and strongly recommended the two-and-a-half-hour walk from the valley floor to the viewing platform at around 2450 m to Engadin summer tourists. And what a treat Muottas Muragl is for the heart!
As time went on, more and more panorama addicts fell for the magical, overwhelming view from Muottas Muragl, and since 1907 a red funicular railway – the second oldest of its kind in Graubünden – has been climbing the steep mountainside to allow visitors to experience this happiness in comfort.
Hikes with a view
From the mountain station at the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl, a varied network of trails leads right into the panorama. On easy and high alpine routes, for short family tours or endurance trekking fans. Accompanied by the whistling of cute marmots, who watch your progress closely from their lookouts, and sometimes even by a group of ibexes, you will discover Engadine treasures: the small mountain lake Lej Muragl between mighty mountain slopes, the beautifully situated Segantini Hut or, in winter, the wisdom of famous poets and thinkers on the Philosopher's Trail.

The Engadin on the Rise
Can't wait to lose your footing? To fly silently with the birds and discover the world from an extraordinary, fascinating perspective? Paragliding on Muottas Muragl provides unforgettable moments and gentle thrills - for tandem and solo pilots.

Even as a novice flyer, you can experience the feeling of soaring like a bird over the magnificent Engadin landscape on a tandem paragliding flight. All you need to do is place yourself in the experienced paraglider pilot's capable hands and enjoy the magical moment. The only requirements for passengers are a normal physical condition and a body weight of at least 30 kg.
The take-off and landing sites at Muottas Muragl are clearly marked, and the current information on the information board at the mountain station must be observed before each flight. Because, of course, ‘safety first’ always applies. Therefore, you should also be aware of the difference between the coveted updraft and the strong gusty Maloja wind, which should be avoided. Since the latter blows more gently in the morning and evening hours, experts recommend flying at these times of day. However, please keep in mind that you are in a high-alpine flying area where the winds can be unpredictable.
Since the flying area is within the 5 km FIZ zone of the Samedan (Engadin Airport) airfield, every flight must be reported to the tower on +41 81 851 08 54. The flight map also shows the various airspace zones: the grey circle of Engadin Airport, the red lines of the wildlife rest areas from 1 May to 30 June and from 1 October to 10 December, the green protection zone C of Val Languard/Albris and the red protection zone D in Val Roseg. Summer fliers (1 May to 10 December) take off from the mountain station on a spacious, gently sloping alpine meadow. In winter, a relatively flat starting point is also located at the mountain station, or, if the Maloja wind picks up, in the lee of the hotel building. The main landing area is the large meadow at Punt Muragl on the footpath to Pontresina.
