Fairy Tale Trail

Rediscover the child in you. Isn't it sometimes an art to see the world through children's eyes? They are the ones who take us by the hand and transport us to a world we had forgotten. The fairy tale path from Bever to Spinas does the same. It runs upstream on the right side of the valley and stops at eight stations where you are greeted by huge sculptures by local artists and illustrated stories that can be read in large-format fairy tale books. They were written by Engadine authors and are also available in the form of a handy book in five languages. After around 5 kilometers, the Spinas restaurant invites you to stop for a bite to eat. You can return on foot, by horse-drawn carriage or by train.

Singletrail dream: Suvretta Loop

The Suvretta Loop is one of the top mountain bike tours in the Engadin, which runs over 33 kilometers and just over 1000 meters in altitude through the Val Suvretta and Val Bever. It starts in Celerina, from where it is always uphill. Marguns, then Corviglia and another tough 200 meters in altitude to the start of the trail that leads around the Piz Nair. The landscape is uniquely beautiful, it is worth taking a break every now and then and letting your gaze wander all around. The flowing trail through the Val Suvretta leads over six kilometers to the Val Bever, where the trail turns into a wide gravel path. The scenery continues just as spectacularly. Tip: If you do the trail early in the morning or late in the afternoon, you can usually enjoy all the beauty of nature all to yourself. An aperitif in the cozy bar of the Bever Lodge, the first modular hotel made entirely of wood, makes for a successful end.

A singletrail dream through the magnificent scenery of Val Suvretta and Val Bever. The route was diverted via Fuorcla Schlattain (with pushing sections) because there is a risk of rockfall at Munt da San Murezzan and the trail is closed. Alternatively, the cable car to Piz Nair can be taken from Corviglia.

Award-winning: The Beverin

In 2021, the Beverin was the first river to receive the "Gewässerperle PLUS" label. This means that Bever is committed to continuing to care for the river, which is worthy of protection and is wild and untouched over long stretches. It has its source at around 2,900 meters above sea level, from where it finds its way through rocky gorges into the Val Bever. Surrounded by floodplains and fens, the mountain stream is also a habitat for rare animal and plant species - even the otter has been spotted here. The Beverin could hardly receive a greater compliment, as the otter only visits ecologically good and intact bodies of water. Experience the natural paradise on a hike from Bever to the Chamanna Jenatsch or over the Fuorcla Crap Alv towards Preda.

On the road: carriage ride

Many roads lead to Val Bever, that much is now clear. There are just as many ways to make the journey. If you like to take it easy and want to intensify the feeling of being in a fairytale forest, you can get into one of the horse-drawn carriages in Bever. For the romantic effect, you have to come again in winter - the feeling of being wrapped up and travelling with two horsepower in the snow is something that summer, as beautiful as it is, cannot offer.

If you want something quick and practical, the train stops in Spinas on request. However, you should allow yourself the necessary time for all other train journeys that are possible in the Engadine.

Hiking: To the highest Graubünden SAC hut

In the farthest reaches of the Val Bever, the Chamanna Jenatsch towers above the valley at 2,651 m above sea level. There are no crowds of people here. It is a meeting place for like-minded people who enjoy hiking, love and appreciate nature and are attracted by the experience of spending the night in a hut. Understandably, nothing beats a sunset and a sunrise away from it all. You can reach the hut from the Julier Pass, the Val Bever or Piz Nair.

No matter which route you choose, the alpine landscape with its geology is spectacular and with a bit of luck you can see ibexes. The Chamanna Jenatsch is also on the Bernina Trek, a long-distance hike with up to seven stages.

And finally, a tip for the hardiest of you - not far from the hut, in the direction of the Julier Pass, there is a glacial lake. Would you dare to take a dip in the cool water?
