Memorial plaque to Dr. Johann Coaz

The memorial plaque at the entrance to Val Varusch commemorates Dr. Johans Wilhelm Fortunat Coaz (1822–1918) from S-chanf. He was the first person to climb Piz Bernina (4049 m) and the first Federal Forestry Inspector (1878–1914). A Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) hut in the Bernina massif is also named after him.
