Open Day at the Silvaplana Power Plant

Repower will be offering tours of the renovated Silvaplana hydroelectric power plant from 13:00 to 17:00. The plant covers approximately one third of the municipality's electricity needs.

The history of the Silvaplana power plant stretches back a long way. The first structures were built around 1890. The plant was renovated in 1972, followed by further modernization work in 1998. With the now completed comprehensive modernization, the power plant can be operated more safely, efficiently, and environmentally friendly for decades to come.

Construction began in April 2025. Repower invested nearly ten million Swiss francs in the plant. The old water intake above the village was dismantled and replaced with a modern, more environmentally friendly one. The pipeline to the reservoir and a significant portion of the penstock were also renewed.

In the power plant's control center in the village, the old turbine-generator unit was removed and replaced with a new, more efficient vertical Pelton turbine. The protection and control systems were also modernized. Structural improvements were also implemented at the control center itself. Various noise mitigation measures further reduce operational noise emissions to the surrounding area.

Repower is thus addressing the control center's location in the heart of the village and the concerns of the local residents. The modernization of the Silvaplana power plant is part of Repower's strategy to preserve existing hydropower in Graubünden in the long term and to further develop renewable electricity production in a targeted manner.
