Film: Nietzsche's first Alpine trips in Switzerland

Step by step, the documentary follows Nietzsche's adventurous journeys to the Alps, beginning in 1869 and spanning over a decade. Fabien Jégoudez interweaves archival footage with images of the various locations as they appear today. The mountains played a crucial role in the philosopher's life, his health, and his thought processes. Viewers are invited to discover relatively unknown episodes from Nietzsche's life and encounter the philosopher in a completely new way—through the landscapes that surrounded him. Experts comment on Nietzsche's unique relationship with these Alpine journeys and also illuminate some fundamental aspects of his philosophy. Filmmaker Fabien Jégoudez will be present, giving a brief introduction and answering questions about the film afterward.
