Silvaplana is not only popular with water sports enthusiasts. Hikers also come to Silvaplana for a reason. On one of the circular hikes to beautiful vantage points, to the hiking mountain Corvatsch, to one of the mountain lakes, or high up on the Piz Julier - there is a lot to hike.
Bikers use the location above all as a starting point for their tours. A highlight is the tour on the Via Engiadin, which promises breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the lake in addition to a lot of riding fun.
The Silvaplana Explorer-Map leads you to the most beautiful viewpoints in Silvaplana and is, among other things, wonderfully suitable for planning family excursions. Where are the grilling/picnic spots, where are the playgrounds, and which circular walks lead to the most beautiful viewpoints, such as the waterfall "Ova da Sagl"? You can download the explorer map here.
At each of the six viewpoints shown, you will find a board with a QR code. Scan it to learn exciting facts about the viewpoint and to get to the audio play of the adventure of Niculin the marmot. Each QR code also hides a solution letter for Niculin's Adventure Contest. Collect all the letters and enter the solution word in the children's coloring book "Coloring and Discovery Fun with Niculin." A small surprise awaits all those who have correctly identified the solution word in the i-Lounge 3303.
Although it is located in the municipality of Samedan, it can be reached on a beautiful hike from the Corvatsch middle station - the Chamanna Coaz. Not even a few hours after the start, the first highlight follows - the Fuorcla Surlej, which offers a breathtaking view of the Bernina Range. Piz Tschierva, Piz Morteratsch, Piz Bernina with the famous Bianco ridge, Piz Roseg, and the Sella group - they all await you here. The path to Chamanna Coaz continues leisurely, but the thought of a fine barley soup or a piece of cake pushes almost everyone forward. Attention: in the summer and fall of 2022, the hut will be renovated and rebuilt, which is why it will remain closed. If you don't want to go all the way to the hut, turn off beforehand and descend to the glacier lake - a jump into the ice-cold water revives all spirits and energizes you for the stretch to the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Glacier. From here it is recommended to take a carriage for the remaining 7 kilometers to Pontresina.
A pearl at 2600 meters. The Lej da la Tscheppa may not be the most mentioned mountain lake, if one speaks of such, in the Engadin. Perhaps because the ascent, with around 800 steep meters of altitude, is quite demanding. But the reward is all the more beautiful. The hike with a view of Lake Silvaplana should only be undertaken by experienced mountain hikers.
Something more suitable for every fitness level is the moor lake Hahnensee, Lej dals Chöds in Rhaeto-Romanic. Since you can reach the lake with its mountain restaurant via various paths, it is perfect for a circular hike, which you can start, for example, at the middle station of Corvatsch and which will take you all the way to St. Moritz Bad.
One of the most spectacular mountains around Silvaplana is the Piz Julier. The 3,380-meter-high mountain is a true classic and impresses with a fantastic summit panorama. However, the demanding alpine hike is only suitable for experienced and vertigo-free mountain hikers.
Information on this and other mountain tours near Silvaplana, for example to Piz Albana, can be obtained from the Pontresina Mountaineering School.
The Panorama Trail leads from the Signalbahn mountain station to Alp Suvretta. Here one's breath is taken away - not because of the effort, but because of the magnificent view of Lake Silvaplana and Corvatsch. To the right and to the left of the wide roadway, the numerous flowers enchant you. A little below Alp Suvretta you cross the wooden bridge on the right and thus turn into the trail. In early summer, summer, and autumn, this tour always exudes a special charm.
On Corvatsch, biking is done on the hiking trails- there are no additional mountain bike trails here. The tour to the rustic Alpetta mountain restaurant can be reached either from the Corvatsch middle station via an adventurous ride or, for those who are stronger uphill than downhill, from the valley station on the well-prepared but steep path to the Alpetta. Once here, the large sun terrace invites you to linger and enjoy an after-work aperitif or even dinner.
Bike transport via the Corvatsch cable car:
Daily with the first three lifts until 09:05 and each time from 15:05 until closing time up to the middle station.
