At Pass Lunghin at 2645 m above sea level is the triple watershed where the Inn River originates. Towards the east it flows into Lake Sils near Maloja, while the Maira flows into the Adriatic Sea, and the Julia flows into the North Sea. A visit to the Engadin should include a hike to the source of the Inn, to which the Engadin owes its name (Rhaeto-Romanic EN.) When crossing the pass, look out for notched cart tracks - they bear witness to the Romans who used the pass many years ago. The hike to the Lunghin Pass starts in Maloja and ends in Casaccia. In the process, 800 meters of altitude are conquered over a distance of 13 kilometers. The trail leads past the Lägh Lunghin, which is considered the source of the Inn River, to the pass. It is also worthwhile to take the path up to Piz Lunghin. From here you have a wonderful view of the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana and the neighboring Bergell, including the serpentine of the Maloja pass to Casaccia - the destination of the day's hike. This is reached via the Septimerpass.
