Albula tunnels I and II

Albula tunnels I and II

The Albula Tunnel I of the Rhaetian Railway was opened in 1903. It is part of the Albula line Chur – St. Moritz, which was awarded Unesco World Heritage status together with the Bernina line in 2008. On June 9, 2024, after around ten years of construction work, the new Albula Tunnel II will be inaugurated with a public festival and then opened to traffic. Spinas will then be a little quieter again and visitors will be able to admire the bypass channel for fish or the renaturalized Beverin floodplain below the railroad station.

Albula Tunnel I will no longer be used for rail traffic in future. The Rhaetian Railway is converting it into a safety tunnel by 2026. If you would like to find out more about the two tunnels and Alp Spinas, make a note of the last weekend in June, when two events are expected to take place in Spinas as part of Open Doors Engadin event. A digital theme trail will also be inaugurated during the summer of 2024.
