Samedner Summer Hikes

Hiking

Samedan
Samedner Summer Hikes

Would you like to discover our region from ever new perspectives? Then you should go high up! Hikes branch off from our village to the most beautiful corners of the Engadin.

One municipality – two sub-areas

Did you know that you are also in the municipality of Samedan when you are high up on the panoramic mountain Muottas Muragls? Or on your hike into the lovely Val Roseg near Pontresina? Or deep back in the enchanted Val Bever? We Samedner welcome you even on the mighty Corvatsch! If you don't have a map of the municipalities at hand (and we assume that this is part of the necessary hiking luggage of only very few people …), you will often recognize the crossing of the municipal boundaries by the benches at the edge of the path. Depending on the municipality, they have different colors and inscriptions.

Hiking trails for all generations

Samedan's extensive network of hiking trails offers numerous routes suitable for strollers as well as ten hiking trails suitable for wheelchairs. The La Senda nature trail above Samedan and the water trail at the bottom of the valley offer special hiking fun for families and those with a thirst for knowledge. Of course, all trails are signposted and marked according to the specifications of the BAW Bündner Wanderwege. And if you want to take a break, simply rest on one of the 84 benches in the Samedan municipality or grill something tasty at one of the numerous barbecue sites.

Hiking tip 1: Marguns - Munt da la Bês-cha - Samedan (difficulty level: medium, approx. 3h)

This fantastic high-altitude hike offers a magnificent view of the Bernina massif and over the Engadin. The Marguns gondola (Celerina) takes you to lofty heights. Passing the Alp Marguns, you hike up the flank to the Munt da la Bês-cha, where the brilliant view over the high valley and to the Bernina massif invites you to linger and admire. Continue along the Piz Padella to the stately Alp Muntatsch, which invites hikers and bikers to a well-deserved rest with its sun terrace and homemade delicacies. Afterwards you will reach Samedan via a zigzag path.

Hiking tip 2: Val Roseg - Tschierva hut (difficulty level: medium, approx. 2h)

On this varied route groundhogs and chamois can be observed. The trail leads from the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Glacier over the bridge of the Ova da Roseg and climbs steadily from the mountain flank. Always in view is the Sella group with the Roseg and Sella glaciers and the wide riverbed of the Ova da Roseg. A short time later you hike along the glacier moraine of the Tschierva glacier towards the Tschierva hut, where an impressive view awaits you. The view of the imposing Piz Roseg, the Piz Bernina with the famous Bianco ridge and the Tschierva glacier accompanies you at every turn. The descent follows the same path.

Hiking tip 3: Lej Muragl (Difficulty level: medium, approx. 2.5h)

This leisurely hike combines various highlights of the Engadin. From a unique view of the Bernina massif, to a clear mountain lake, to the sighting of groundhogs, you will be offered a lot. The ride with the funicular up to Muottas Muragl already gives you an idea of the panorama that awaits you at the top at around 2500 m above sea level - until this expectation is even exceeded on the viewing platform of the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl!

The signposted hike begins on the left above the panorama path with a slight incline. Along the path and through the middle of the high alpine landscape you have an excellent view of the block glacier, which slowly moves down towards the valley like a lava flow. After a good hour you reach Lej Muragl (2715 m). If you look closely, you can even spot fish in the water. Back you go downhill along a river over cow pastures and untouched mountain landscapes. After another hour you will reach the top station of the funicular again, from where you can take a leisurely ride down to the valley after a refreshment.

Hiking tip 4: La Senda (difficulty level: medium, approx. 2.5h)

It nestles along the sunny slope of Samedan, the Samedan nature trail La Senda. Discover surprising connections in nature: for example, about a perfume that glows, about a market garden with 500,000 employees, about energy bars for insects or about permafrost. Do you have your smartphone handy? Then you can use the free app "La Senda Nature Trail" to listen to stories such as "Walled in alive" and "The Maid of Morteratsch" or watch videos.
