Certainly, our protagonists, these are our mountains and the magnificent alpine landscape around our village. But what would Samedner vacations be without the numerous "icings on the cake"? Without culture, wellness, sports or hiking? That you can experience and enjoy all this (and of course much more) with us, we show you with our summer highlight list:
A bathing jewel in the Engadin - bathing between heaven and earth, church and mountains. Let yourself be carried away into another world by the uniquely mystical atmosphere. Situated in the middle of the historic village center and attached to the listed church, Switzerland's first vertical mineral bath impresses with its unique architecture by Miller & Maranta alone. Due to the vertical arrangement of the various baths on three floors, the bathing experience truly "grows" beyond itself - until you can finally admire the alpine panorama high above from the outdoor pool directly under the church tower. Bathing is done in mineral water from our own spring, which is taken directly from under the building at a depth of 35 meters. www.mineralbad-samedan.ch
Welcome to the oldest golf course in Switzerland! On this 18-hole championship course (par 72) you will definitely not just "play a quick round". Here the day will fly by in a golf frenzy, because the spacious practice areas, modern training technology such as the RoboGolfPro or Trackman, and the offers of the Academy "Engadin Golf Center" make the golfer's heart rejoice.
Station 1: The historic watchtower La Tuor is already 800 years old and yet has remained enviably young: True to its motto "Future has origins", it is a cultural antenna for the then, the now and the future. In its museum, you can learn more about cultural creativity in the Engadin, from art, music, architecture, crafts to design.
Station 2: Chesa Planta is more than "just" the former ancestral home of the von Planta and von Salis families. Once the largest private house in the Engadin, it is now the Upper Engadin cultural center and a haven of Rhaeto-Romanic culture. The museum-like cultural archive is home to an important library with Engadin collections and bequests, as well as the Museum of Home Culture. Our tip: Don't forget to pay a visit to the historic garden with its pretty pavilion dating from 1855.
Station 3: For over thirty years, art has been exhibited in the rooms of the old village bakery from the 17th century. Performance artists also find a distinctive stage in the "Kunstraum Riss".
Bike Tour : Padella Panoramatrail (Alp Muntatsch - Marguns section) This idyllic panoramic trail high above Samedan starts at the shooting range on the upper edge of the village. In wide bends the natural road winds up through the forest and the view through the trees becomes more and more spectacular. Just above the forest line, the whole mountain panorama opens up at Alp Muntatsch. Don't miss to taste the small delicacies - and especially the famous “Kaiserschmarrn” - served by the shepherds of the alp. The descent to Marguns requires skill and concentration. In some places it is advisable to push the bike. From Marguns the speed can be increased again and on the so-called "Samedner Abfahrt" (in winter the ski slope leads here directly down to Samedan) you roll quickly downhill and reach the starting point.
Are you ready for the Strava trail run competition "La Traveseda Engiadina"? Are you ready to discover the ABC of trail running between Samedan, Bever, La Punt and Zuoz? Just you, your Strava app and nature on the three most beautiful trails of the Engadin! Get ranked and win monthly and all over nice prizes! Every finisher of all 3 trails receives a small gift!
Stroll, look, taste, buy, chat, enjoy. That's always possible in Samedan, but it's especially rustic at our weekly market. Here regional products are offered for sale, here young and old meet, here locals and guests immerse themselves in the lively village atmosphere. The weekly market takes place from June to September every Tuesday from 8.30 to 11.30 am on the village square.
It nestles along the sunny slope of Samedan, the Samedan nature trail La Senda. Discover surprising connections in nature here: for example, about a perfume that glows, about a market garden with 500,000 employees, about energy bars for insects or about permafrost. Do you have your smartphone handy? Then you can listen to stories like "Walled in alive" and "The maiden of Morteratsch" or watch videos with the free app "Nature trail La Senda" on top of that. Hiking time: approx. 2.5h.
Children's playgrounds and fireplaces at the golf lakes make these trails a real family experience. Firewood is available, so all you need to bring is barbecue food to barbecue and a good mood. You can also cool off on site, as the golf lakes are perfect for a dip in the fresh water. Free parking is available (approx. 8 min. walking time, as there is a driving ban on the way there).
It hisses, steams and chugs: with the power of fire and water, the RhB steam locomotive pulls the red nostalgic cars through the railroad country of Grisons. What began in 1889 with the opening of the train line from Landquart to Klosters is today a 384-kilometer-long rail network in the middle of the Swiss high mountains. Immerse yourself in the historic world of the steam age and experience a piece of railroad history up close in the Grisons mountains - naturally in true style with sound and smoke.
A day full of action and fun in the bouncy castle fun park should not be missing from any family to-do list. Because having fun, playing and indulging in pure pleasure is as much a part of a family vacation as the mountains are to the Engadin. The Funpark is open every day - even in rainy weather, because in case of suboptimal weather it is set up in the multipurpose hall next door. And don't forget your bathing suit: The big water slide and the paddle pool offer refreshing variety for bouncing aerial acrobats.
