Our region is host to numerous world-class events which delight guests from all over the world, not least because of their spectacular Alpine setting. In order to not unnecessarily burden nature which is the basis of many events, the organisers focus on sustainable concepts.
The 2003 Alpine Ski World Cup in St. Moritz has already shown that a major event can give ecological action and environment innovations an important forum. The Engadin Skimarathon, too, acts as a role model, and the actions taken by the worldwide second largest cross country skiing event in the fields of «energy», «nature», «transport», «food» (i. a.) have been acknowledged by the national environmental forum “Clean Event”.
The White Turf horse races and the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz also set great store by sustainability. The organisers agree on exploiting synergies, cutting costs of infrastructure and optimising the energy balance. Furthermore, a comprehensive ecological reusable waste management concept is applied. The basic infrastructure on Lake St. Moritz set up once a year is also used by many event organisers, including the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz, the White Turf, the motoring event “The ICE”, as well as smaller events.
