Atelier Giuliano Pedretti (1924 - 2012)

With unerring consistency Giuliano Pedretti, the last exponent of classical modernism, explored the problems of sculpture, space and existence. The dynamic Engadin artist was always concerned ‘about the creative aspect, creating something artificially vibrant, about a force counteracting nature, about the intellect surviving and enduring against the disintegration of the world, against death, and time’.

Guided tour and movie throughout. Free entrance.

Sommer opening hours 2024 : "Terrenzlas : light and shadow, day and night"

As part of the special exhibition 'Splendur e sumbriva' of the Chesas da cultura Engiadina.

The sculptor Giuliano Pedretti developed his complex formal language through his virtuoso handling of light and shadow, physical dimensions, transparency and asymmetry. Based on Rodin's theory, according to which sculpture consists of convex and concave forms, Giuliano Pedretti dissolves the figure to the point of complete transparency. His openwork sculptures are also a reference to the terrenzlas, snow-free patches, of the Engadin landscape in early spring.

The dynamic Engadin was "interested in the creative - something artificially alive, a counterforce to nature, a spiritual survival and continuation of life against the decay of the world, against death and time."
