On the 4th of January 2009 after a ski mountaineering trip on top of Piz Belvair, above Zuoz, in Engadin, the ski-alp group named “La Pelle in Engadina” was founded by the few participants of that tour. The purpose was to create a community in Engadin interested in living the extraordinary experience of ski touring: reaching snowy summits with skis and skins and daring descent on fresh snow, through enchanting slopes. Many years passed from that day and now the members of La Pelle in Engadina are more than one hundred. Some of them frequently attend the tours, others are less active but still happy to be part of this non-competitive community, which loves Engadin and its magnificent nature.
Chairman and main strategist of the group was Marco Liva, who sadly passed away in August 2017 due to an accident during an hike in Engadin. Marco, together with the co-founder of the group Carlo Lazzati, during 2017, edited the photo–book “Bianche Salite - White Peaks”. Marco (who published the book under the acronyms Ocram Avil) curated the illustrations: not photos taken by a professional, but by an enthusiast of ski mountaineering, of life and friendship. Carlo curated the selection of poems commenting on the photos. These were written by people detained in the Opera (Milan) penitentiary during the writing workshop, attended also by Carlo, as volunteer.
The exhibition now hosted at Waldgalerie is a selection of the photos taken by Marco/Ocram during the ski mountaineering trip in Engadin of the group La Pelle in Engadina. Such photos were included in the book “Bianche Salite - White Peaks”, and are now presented together with the poems commenting the photos (written in Italian and translated into English and Deutsch). When an image is accompanied by a text written on it, photography acquires an enormously enriched expressive vocabulary, able to convey even more definite and complete emotion.
Martino Liva, son of Marco, together with Carlo Lazzati and other members of La Pelle in Engadina, selected the photos and cured the setting of this exhibition. The title is untouched, and untouched is as well the friendship that bonds together the many that have travelled Engadina’s white peaks together with Marco.
The exhibition is dedicated to Marco Liva, founder of La Pelle in Engadina and author of the photos, and Alessio Altichieri, a dear member of the same ski-alp tour, who passed away few days before Marco, in August 2017, during a different hike in Engadin.
The exhibition is accompanied by a competition in which a picture of the exhibition can be won.
The access to the forest gallery is signposted from the village square of Chamues-ch.
