Taking Corvatsch in your stride

For nature lovers, hiking on Corvatsch-Furtschellas offers beautifully varied landscapes and fascinating impressions of nature. The extensive network of rambling trails leads you right into a picture-perfect alpine world with magnificent views of the Bernina massif and the Engadin lakes.

Hiking bliss in wintertime …

Up on Furtschellas, you will find a circular trail with an extra level of convenience: the Furtschellas Lake Trail, marked with wooden posts throughout. At most you could lose yourself in the beauty of the landscape, but you will reach your destination even without a map and compass. All the same, it is important not to leave the marked trail! Starting at the Furtschellas-Chüdera middle station, you reach vantage points with magnificent views over the snow-blanketed valley, with its frozen lakes. After 1.8 km you arrive at a simple but cosy mountain restaurant, the Ustaria Rabgiusa, where you can fortify yourself with delicious local specialities before tackling the short ascent with fresh energy and heading back to the Furtschellas-Chüdera middle station. For an even more carefree version of this enchanting circular tour, try one of these packages.

For the walk from Sils to Alp Prasüra you can switch from snowshoes to simple hiking boots. This trail from the base station of the Furtschellas cable car that leads through snow-blanketed pine forests requires a certain level of fitness, but afterwards you can relax on the splendid sun terrace of the delightful mountain restaurant ”Kuhstall”. As a reward for your efforts, enjoy a mouth-watering choice of local delicacies!

Snow shoe walking

... and in summertime

To hike on the Corvatsch means to hike with heart and soul – and, hopefully, with appetite! Culinary delights await you at every turn, served on one of the many sun terraces or in a cosy mountain restaurant. The Via Gastronomica makes this happy happenstance its mission and combines the enjoyment of beautiful scenery with delicious local cuisine. You can choose your own route, stopping along the way at three specific restaurants that each serve one course of homemade delicacies.

On the Water Trail, a great family hike to the «6 Lejin» (Romansh for: 6 lakes), two enchanting mountain guides will be constantly at your side: Thanks to the cheerful and intriguing background information on the lakes provided by the little mountain fairy Mara and her cheeky companion, the goblin Furbaz, the walking time of approximately two and a half hours will simply fly by. Those two charming guides will open your eyes for the characteristics of each idyllic lake and give away all kinds of information on the Engadin flora and fauna. The booklet «Plitsch and Platsch with the mountain fairy Mara and the goblin Furbaz” is available free of charge at the Furtschellas valley and middle station.

Nomen est omen: Stunning views galore await you on the Panoramic Trail from Corvatsch middle station. This well accessible trail with an elevation gain of approximately 900 metres will take you via Prugnieu and Alp Prasüra down to Sils in around 4 hours.

This high alpine trip brings you within touching distance with the Corvatsch glacier: The Corvatsch Glacier Walk, starting at Corvatsch 3303 summit station, is marked with blue poles and you will reach the glacier in 15-20 minutes. Caution! Please do not leave the marked zone due to the danger of crevasses.

After a one hour hike on the well accessible mountain path from Corvatsch middle station you will reach the “Window to the Bernina massif”. Sounds compelling? Well, stunning is more like it! From the mountain restaurant Fuorcla Surlej at 2755 metres the staggering view of the ice-covered giants Piz Bernina with its Bianco ridge and Piz Roseg will take your breath away. And look: Their peaks are reflected in a still mountain lake … very instagramable!

«Geborgen – gletschernah – familiär» (sheltered – close to the glacier – homely) is the slogan of the SAC hut Chamanna Coaz at 2610 metres which is surrounded by the peaks of the Bernina range and offers an impressive view on rugged glaciers. On the panoramic terrace, you can comfortably enjoy the sun (as well as homemade cake or a tasty barley-broth) while savouring the high alpine spectacle. In summer, the hut can be reached via a panoramic high-altitude trail from Murtèl middle station. Taking into consideration the time you will spend just lingering and admiring the magnificent panorama, the moderate hike will take you approximately two and a half hours.
