(Ice) swim your way to health and happiness

Ice bathing area Engadin

Everyone is talking about ice swimming or winter swimming. The trend of plunging into ice cold water is here to stay and more and more people are looking for that special cold kick. Searching for a unique self-experience, looking for an exhilarating adrenaline rush, or simply trying to get your circulation going? There are many reasons for venturing into ice water.

In particular, ice bathing has been associated with numerous positive effects on body and mind. A brief immersion in an ice bath has been said to strengthen the immune system, promote blood circulation, sharpen the mind and senses, and even improve mood. These effects on the body can be explained relatively simply: The cold provides a stimulus that can lead to increased production of endorphins, the so-called happiness hormones, adrenaline, and anti-inflammatory corticoids.

In the Engadin this winter, there are two official ice bathing areas which invite you to take an invigorating dip in the clear lake water. Until the end of the season, you can dive into the idyllic Lake Sils at Plaun da Lej every day from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Coat racks and hot tea are available on site. In addition, Lake St. Moritz at Punt da Piz is perfect for a winter dip.
