Unknown late Gothic frescoes in Bever, Chamues-ch and Zuoz

Discover the frescoes in Bever, Chamues-ch and Zuoz with Walter Isler. Jürg Stocker accompanies with organ music. Meeting point: 20 June 2024, 13:45 in front of Bever church.

The frescoes in the churches of Fex-Crasta, San Gian (Celerina), and Santa Maria (Pontresina) are well-known and frequently visited by interested audiences.

In the church of San Andrea in Chamues-ch, frescoes by the three masters of Fex, San Gian, and Pontresina can be found. The images in the ancient chapel of San Bastiaun (Zuoz) with its significant numerical mystique have survived the Reformation without being covered over. A particularly valuable cultural heritage is the even older - and unique to the Engadin region - Gothic frescoes on the western exterior wall of the church of San Giachem in Bever.

Walter Isler will lead a tour to these lesser-known frescoes in Bever, Chamues-ch, and Zuoz. Jürg Stocker (organist) will enrich the tour with his expertise.

Walter Isler, originally a young chemist, moved to the Grisons region. After years in marketing, sales, and management, he pursued training as a church guide upon retirement. Since 2021, he has been offering church and cultural tours in the Upper Engadin region. He resides in Bever.

Jürg Stocker received his organ training from Ursula Hauser, Hansjörg Stalder, and Ester Mottini. After serving as an organist in Domleschg, Schams, and Bergün for years, he has been the organist for the Reformed Church Parish of Upper Engadin since 2017, primarily in Samedan, Bever, and La Punt Chamues-ch.
