Festival da Jazz: Angélique Kidjo

Festival da Jazz: Angélique Kidjo

Angélique Kidjo, An African Odessey

Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Odetta, Miriam Makeba: strong women who also raised their voices to fight injustice have had a decisive influence on Angélique Kidjo´s musical and socio-cultural career. The Benin-born singer´s motto is "Sing the Truth" (Kidjo fled Benin for France in 1982 because otherwise she would most likely have ended up in prison). Angélique Kidjo impressively packages the truth in an extremely passionate multi-ethnic music that draws from very different sources (including Afro-pop, jazz, Afro-Caribbean music).
