Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Friedrich Nietzsche – a fictional encounter
Friedrich Nietzsche and Annemarie Schwarzenbach: two extraordinary personalities who, at first glance, seem to have little in common – except for their love of Sils. They repeatedly sought refuge in the Upper Engadine mountain village, approaching it through writing and choosing it as their haven and center of life. To mark the inclusion of their literary estates in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, the Engadine author Selma Mahlknecht has written a fictional encounter, incorporating numerous original quotations, which she will perform together with the historian Kurt Gritsch. In it, Schwarzenbach and Nietzsche are brought to life through their poetic language, but also as individuals. The first part alternates between original texts by the two figures, in which they reflect on their longings, their dreams, and their love for the mountainous landscape around Sils. Here, their worlds of thought and feeling unfold, and striking parallels between them become apparent. In the second part, they meet – in a dialogue that sparks a connection. In case of bad or uncertain weather, the event will take place in the bar of the Hotel Schweizerhof.
