Giovanni Segantini as guest of honour in the Paracelsus Forum

St.Moritz
During renovation and expansion work the Segantini Museum will show an exhibition of selected paintings in the Paracelsus Forum from April 6, 2019.

The Segantini Museum closes on March 10, 2019 for remodelling and expansion work, and will reopen its doors on 20 December 2019 in new splendour. Fortunately, Segantini fans will still have the opportunity to admire the works of this great symbolist in St. Moritz. The Paracelsus Forum in St. Moritz Bad offers Segantini´s imagery a harmonious home steeped in history. In this former tavern dating from 1866, which was restored in 2014, in addition to a documentation of St. Moritz´s drinking and bathing culture visitors can marvel at the over 3400-year-old Mauritius spring basin, the oldest and best-preserved wooden structure in Europe. Giovanni Segantini once wrote: "Most of all I love the sun, after the sun the Springtime, then the springs that bubble crystal clear from the rocks in the Alps [...]". Thus, the first Segantini exhibition in the Paracelsus Forum (6 April - 15 September 2019) is fittingly dedicated to the water source and springwater so important to the artist.

In this context, paintings such as "Evening at the Fountain" (1882-83), "Ave Maria Crossing the Lake" (1886), "Child in the Bath" (1886-87), "The Water Carrier" (1886-1887), "Grisons Girl at the Fountain" (1887), "Brown Cow at the Trough" (1892), "The Source of Evil" (1897) among others, have a prominent place in the exhibition. But other masterpieces such as "Return from the Forest" (1890), "Midday in the Alps" (1891) and "The Hay Harvest" (1889-1898) will also be on display. A second exhibition (September 21 - October 20, 2019) entitled From the Dark to the Light will show very rarely exhibited drawings by the artist, as well as a selection of portraits and still-life paintings showing Segantini´s mastery in these genres.
