Bun Appettit in Pontresinaand Poschiavo
Pontresina and Poschiavo could be described as the two secret gourmet destinations on the Bernina Pass. Why? Find out here.
The culinary offer in the popular holiday locations starts with a simple take-away and ends in the baroque dining hall of the Grand Hotel Kronenhof. In between is the entire range of culinary offers: from pizzerias to fondue restaurants, from barbecues to the fish and vegetarian restaurant. There’s space for local specialities as well as dishes from Veltlin or Asia, beer gardens, art nouveau style rooms and Swiss stone pine parlours that are there to win over guests. Food is cooked with a passion and to a high level. The village with approximately 2,000 residents has around 65 restaurants and guesthouses – that’s around one per 30 residents. Record-worthy!
The “100% Val Poschiavo” project aims to give local produce a special place on the menus in the food establishments in Poschiavo. After all, we all want to know where the food on our plates comes from.
13 restaurants have already signed the “100% Val Poschiavo” charter and are thus committed to cooking with local products. This covers eggs and milk products, cheese and meat, grains and pasta, fruit and vegetables, herbs, tea and spices, sweets and drinks. At least three dishes from all those offered are cooked using only local produce.
95% of the agricultural produce in Val Poschiavo is already produced organically and is Bio-Suisse certified – and the trend is rising! The pioneering spirit shown among the farmers and producers has put Val Poschiavo in a unique position. Record-worthy!
