Riding in winter - from walks for beginners to hacks for experts.
The Wohlwend family enjoy sharing their passion with like-minded people. At these stables near Pontresina, children and adults will find a riders’ paradise year-round, and also the right animals on which to experience the winter world: good-natured horses, ponies and a donkey.
Children from as young as three years old can enjoy their first experience of riding, on gentle walks with ponies; unsure riders can improve their skills under expert guidance; and confident riders can add a suitably sporty touch to their winter holiday. Whatever guests’ level, Gina Wohlwend and her children offer a fascinating experience of the wonderful world of horses.
They are good-natured, even-tempered and unfazed by traffic: the horses at the Engadin River Ranch – an organic farm with suckling cows – are completely docile and therefore ideal for leisurely rides in the beautiful Alpine landscape. Riding experience is not necessary and beginners are welcome.
Before the tour, the River Branch team instructs guests in the technique of riding and accompanies and helps them along the route. On offer are anything between a two-hour hack to a five-day trekking tour in small groups.
