Six hundred inhabitants, half of whom speaks Rhaeto-Romanic. An intact historic village centre that exudes an irresistible, primeval charm. A culture that is still strongly rooted in its Romanic origins. And right on the doorstep, unspoilt nature that is so unique that much of it is protected by law.
Although over the last decades the tiny hamlet situated at the gateway to the Swiss National Park has considerably gained in importance as a tourist resort, S-chanf has still managed to preserve its relaxed sense of tradition. Here, the Engadin way of life is not simply cultivated, but actively lived to the full.
S-chanf lies at the entrance to the beautiful Val Trupchan, which has the greatest abundance of game in Europe. It is the departure point for lengthy hikes to Livigno, a stopover point along the ancient mule track to Davos, and the location of the finish of the Engadin Inline Marathon.
