Sgraffiti are works of art and decorations in lime that originated in Italy. For about half a millennium this technique has been considered cultural heritage of the Engadin.
Many figures have to be interpreted and during the visit you will learn the hidden meaning of these decorations. The "proverbis engiadinais" will also be explained during the walk. Thanks to these proverbs you can understand and immerse yourself in the Engadin culture and way of life.
A linguist once described the Engadin people in the following words: "The Engadin people are the only people in Europe with a southern language, but a fundamentally northern European mentality".
Maliconia and nostalgia have always played an important role in the life of the valley and are a recurring theme on many of the house facades.
What is special about La Punt Chamues-ch is that on most of the new buildings - from the 1970s and 1980s - not only have the old sgraffito symbols continued to be used, but traditional proverbs have also been rediscovered.
